This program is meant to connect individuals and households to additional resources to provide support to strengthen their current situation. Services include move-in assistance, eviction prevention, rent, and other flexible financial assistance which includes help with medical bills, repair bills, and other needs-based expenses.

In an effort to help keep people in their homes, the Financial Assistance program has limited funds available to provide up to $600 to prevent evictions and utility shut offs. It is the goal of this program to keep our neighbors in their homes. To find out how to apply for these funds or utility assistance, call our office at 206-365-8043. They only serve zip codes of 98125, 98133, 98155, or 98177 (OR moving into those areas.
I highly recommend you call or go onto their website for more information. Applications are only accepted on specific days of the month.

The Ballard Food Bank accepts applications for emergency rental and utility assistance from the first of the month to 5pm on the 7th. We can provide up to $250 of assistance with rent, electrical bills, or move-in costs to people living in the zip codes of 98103, 98105, 98115 and 98125. To ensure that we can make the most of the funds that we have available, we limit our assistance to once per person. We reserve the right to refuse service for this or any other reason. Please be prepared with a current ID and a 6 month to one year lease or a current utility bill.

If you are facing a temporary financial hardship, we can help cover the cost of your rent or utilities to keep you stably housed. If you are moving into our service area, we can help cover move-in costs. If you are eligible for assistance, we can help in the amount of either $800 or one-month’s rent, whichever is lower. Due to limited staffing resources, there is only one staff person taking calls during intake times, so you may experience a busy signal, continuous ringing or no answer. We are not able to return calls to those seeking assistance and we will not be able to respond to any messages left on other phone lines. You must get through to a live person and obtain an appointment to receive assistance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Multi-Service Center
MSC provides one-time rent assistance and limited resources for temporary emergencies such as utility bill assistance to individuals and families living within the city limits of Burien, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, and SeaTac. Limited funds are available for assistance and all eligibility requirements must be met.

Is a social service organization offering basic needs assistance: Food Bank, Clothing Bank and Emergency Financial Assistance.
Shared Bread
Provides assistance with evictions, and with energy/water bill shut-offs for residents of the Kent School District. (This may include some people in Renton and Covington whose children attend or will attend Kent Schools.) You don’t have to have children attending school—but live in an area where, if you had children, they would be attending Kent School District schools.
Assistance limited to once every 12 months. You cannot owe more than $4,000. Please call the church office on Monday mornings at 9:00 a.m. at (253) 852-0993 and schedule an appointment. (The exceptions to this are national holidays that fall on Mondays — in that case, please call on Tuesday morning.)
We only do eight appointments a week, 3 of which are reserved for rent. These appointments fill up very quickly, so it is essential to call at 9:00 a.m. and be persistent to get an appointment. The phone lines will be busy, and if you wait even half an hour, it is unlikely that you will receive a rent appointment.

Federal Way Community Caregiving Network at Church of the good Shepherd

This program provides partial emergency rent assistance, gasoline vouchers or bus tickets on a walk-in basis only on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 noon. Help is restricted to only one of the three areas. There are limitations on the number of people we can help each Tuesday. Assistance is on a first come first served basis. No applications will be accepted after 11:45 a.m.
Must live within the following Zip Codes: 98003 or 98023 – Federal Way; 98001- South of 272nd and West of 51st only – Auburn and 98422 – NE Tacoma. Client/household may only be assisted once in a 24-month period. Cannot be more than 1 month behind for rent assistance. Annual income level must be at 40% of King County Medium Income or below based on family size. For example, that is $48,200 or below for a family of 2 or $60,280. or below for a family of 4.

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe’s Emergency Assistance Program provides short term financial assistance to help adult enrolled Snoqualmie Tribal Members through a crisis or transition. Tribal members can receive up to $1,500.00 (one thousand five hundred dollars) in assistance, per fiscal year (October 1- September 30).

Through our partnership with Housing Justice Project and Tenants Union of Washington, we are able to provide assistance throughout the county Tuesday – Thursday, from 10am-1pm, via the King County Tenant Resource Line: 206-580-0762.
Our Services: Evictions from private, public, or subsidized housing: If you have received an eviction notice, it is important that you do not ignore it. Eviction timelines are very short and having an eviction on your record damages your ability to rent housing in the future. Getting help early in the process can often resolve the issue before you end up in court.
Subsidy Termination: If you have a Section 8 voucher or live in subsidized housing and have received notice that your assistance is being terminated
Reasonable Accommodation Requests: If, due to a medical condition or disability, you need to request a reasonable accommodation to preserve your tenancy or subsidy.

Northwest Justice Project (NJP) provides free legal assistance to address fundamental human needs such as housing, family safety, income security, health care, education, and more.
Renters with low income facing eviction in Washington State can get free legal help. If your eviction case ends up in court and you are low-income, you have a right to a free lawyer. You also have a legal right to an interpreter in your language.

Emergency Low-Income Assistance Program (ELIA) at Seattle City Light

Provides grants to help qualifying low-income households pay electric bills. ELIA grants are provided once each year per household. Program serves Seattle City Light customers who have received an urgent or shut-off notice on a balance of $250 or more; participants may receive up to $200 maximum.
Puget Sound Energy
PSE’s Home Energy Lifeline Program (HELP) provides assistance for residential customers to help pay electric or natural gas bills. If you qualify, we’ll credit your account for up to $1,000.
King County LIHEAP
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low income households, to meet their immediate home energy needs. LIHEAP assistance is now available year-round! You may now be eligible to receive assistance once every 12 months.
City of Seattle customers can call 800-756-5437 (Public Health — Seattle & King County CHAP Line) for assistance. Applications are processed by the Byrd Barr Place.

Bellevue Utilities offers two types of short-term bill assistance for residents not participating in our long-term bill assistance programs.
The Emergency Assistance Program helps residents living within our service area who are directly billed by Bellevue Utilities, meet specific low-income requirements, and have recently experienced an unforeseen financial hardship.
The Neighbors Helping Neighbors program offers support to residents living within our service area who are directly billed by Bellevue Utilities, meet specific low-income requirements, and have a past-due utility bill.
Bellevue Utilities offers long-term utility bill assistance for:
- Low-income residents
- Low-income residents age 62+
- Low-income residents with a permanent disability and receive benefits from a government program
- Residents with in-home dialysis
Please note: There are other organizations listed under rental assistance who helps with utility assistance.
Utility Discount Program

Want to pay less on your utility bills? We encourage all income-eligible customers to enroll in the Utility Discount Program to receive an ongoing 60% discount on electricity bills, plus a 50% bill discount for customers who receive their water, sewer, and solid waste services from Seattle Public Utilities. If you are a tenant whose Seattle Public Utilities services are paid by a landlord or homeowner’s association, but you still have a City Light account, you can receive Seattle Public Utilities credits toward your electric bill.

At the risk of shutoff or behind on your electricity bill? If you have received an urgent or final shutoff notice OR have a past due balance of $250 or more, and meet the income eligibility requirements, our Emergency Bill Assistance Program can help. Eligible customers may receive up to $710 per calendar year in emergency assistance to reduce their past-due balances. Households with children under the age of 18 may be eligible for up to $1420 in assistance per calendar year.
These agencies have access to programs such as section 8 and low-income housing.
